You can often resteep tea a few times. Yes, that's right. You can get far more use out of tea past the first steep. Besides saving money on tea, you also get to experience the different subtleties of a tea's flavor after each steep.
Types of Teas You Can Resteep
There are certain types of teas that you can resteep more effectively than others. Some of the best success you will get with resteeping tea is with the following:
- Black Tea
- White Tea
- Green Tea
- Rooibos Tea
- Oolong Tea
- Herbal Tea
All of these teas can be resteeped numerous times. You will know how many times a specific tea can be re-steeped by its flavor. Once it is no longer flavorful enough for you, it has reached its resteeping limit.
We will look at each one of these teas individually so you know how many times you can resteep them.
Black Tea
If you are looking for a strong and robust flavor to your tea, black tea is the way to go. When you steep this tea for the first time, it will have a commanding presence on your taste buds. However, after steeping it two or three times, the flavor will become milder and more distinct. You can resteep black tea three times before it loses too much of its flavor.
White Tea
On the other end of the flavor spectrum is white tea. This is a tea that features a smoother and lighter flavor than black tea. It can also be resteeped two or three times before it loses too much of its refreshing flavor.
Green Tea
Green tea is a healthy and popular tea that can also be resteeped. You can re-steep it two or three times if you are using a fresh and high-quality form of green tea.
Rooibos Tea
A great aspect of rooibos tea is that it has no bitter tannins. This means you can steep a cup or pot of rooibos tea for a long time without the flavor becoming overwhelming. You will be able to get at least two to three resteeps of rooibos tea.
Oolong Tea
Oolong tea comes in many varieties, with their flavors being quite dynamic and changing with every steep. As with the teas already mentioned, you can get at least two to three steepings of oolong tea. However, it is common to get four or five resteeps with this tea when it is fresh and high-quality.
Herbal Tea
There are numerous herbal teas available. Given this, it is difficult to give a specific number with regards to how many resteeps are possible. At the bare minimum, you will be able to get second steeping out of an herbal tea but with a very dull taste. But the stronger the herbal flavor, the more likelihood you have of resteeping it multiple times.
Now that you know how many times you can resteep tea, you can extend the value of your tea and enjoy the subtle flavor differences possible with resteeping your favorite blends, over and over again.
